Step by step
Step 1[2]
Kentucky does NOT allow address-only changes through the online renewal portal. You must mail Form TC 94-192 or visit a Regional Office in person.
Step 2[5]
Download and complete Form TC 94-192. Select the Duplicate/Replacement option, check the Address Change box, and write in your new address.
Step 3[2]
Attach a copy (not the original) of one residency document postmarked within the last year that shows your new KY address.
Step 4[5]
Mail the completed form, document copy, and $15 payment to: Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Division of Driver Licensing, 200 Mero Street, Frankfort KY 40622. Or take everything in person to a Regional Office.
Step 5[6]
Update your vehicle registration address SEPARATELY with your County Clerk — driver licensing and vehicle records are not linked.
Step 6[7]
If you registered to vote at your old address, update that with the Kentucky Secretary of State at vrsws.sos.ky.gov/ovrweb/.
Common reasons this gets rejected
Sending original documents instead of copies
DRIVE explicitly says 'Do not send originals' for mail-in updates. Send photocopies of your residency proof — originals can be lost in the mail.
Trying to update your address online
Kentucky's online renewal portal does not support address-only changes. Form TC 94-192 by mail or an in-person visit are your only options.
Forgetting to update vehicle registration
DL and vehicle records are NOT linked. Your renewal notice and new registration are mailed to the County Clerk's address on file — update that separately or your tags go to the old address.
Using forwarded mail as residency proof
Mail forwarded from your old address won't qualify. You need a piece of mail addressed and sent to your new KY address, postmarked within the last year.
Not updating Social Security or voter registration
An address change with the DMV doesn't propagate. Update Social Security (ssa.gov), voter registration (vrsws.sos.ky.gov), and your insurance separately.
